Public Speaking Training in Nigeria
Have you ever given a speech you wished you could take back? Or, struggled to put your thoughts together in front of 30 people staring at you?
For some people, speaking in public can be an intimidating exercise. Some have turned down juicy job offers and career positions simply because the new role will come with more public speaking than they are used to. For those who just cannot escape it -- who must do it as part of the job -- every time they have to make a speech, they do so with enduring pain and deep reluctance.
Every time you speak in public, you are either promoting or demoting your image, whether yours or that of the organisation, interest or group you represent." —Jonas Ezeanya
So What is the Problem?
There are many theories. The three most common ones are:
- Fear of failure. The burden to live up to expectation may induce self-doubt which could deny you of your confidence in stepping out in front of an audience.
- Calibre of the audience. A "high-level" audience (senior executives, VIPs etc) may be more intimidating compared to a gathering of peers or subordinates.
- Poor preparation and rehearsal. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And if you plan but fail to master your plan (rehearsal), you invite trouble. It is that simple.
There are several others, of course. But, in all, the problem comes down to just two core factors: the lack of speaking skills and the lack of speaking experience.
